Granulated Activated Carbon is a highly porous adsorbent material that is produced by heating organic matter, such as coal, wood and coconut shell, in the absence of air, which is then crushed into granules and positively charged.
Commonly used as an alternative to Carbon Block filters.
Applications of GAC adsorption in drinking water include organic contaminant removal from groundwater, taste and odor control, and reduction of disinfection by-products.
Activated carbon is not effective in removing heavy metals.
